Mission Moment: You Can't Go Beyond What You Are Taught - A Lesson in Being a Parent

JC Penney comes in for a game. Its great and they are having a lot of fun. So of course the neighborhood kids want to stay and watch. All is okay as long as they call parents and get permission.

Later on dad comes to get his son. The son, around 5, gets upset. Dad yells and tells his son he'll get his when they get home. This leads the boy to cry. Sob loudly actually.

Some intervention, and some apologies from son to dad and a lot of reinforcement of listening to your parents, who is the adult, and not talking back. Seems like all is well. The kid is told "And tomorrow when you come back, you can have fun."

"He's not coming back tomorrow. Not with all those stupid tears. You cry you don't come back."

Can't blame the dad. He's doing what he was taught and repeating what was done to him. And no one can go beyond what they are taught.

We have a lot of teaching to do.
